Four people have died after a horror crash along Leach Highway in Perth’s south on Monday morning, shutting down the major road in both directions.

Police were called to the scene around 3.40am after a taxi collided with another car that was travelling on the wrong side of the highway near Abernethy Road in Cloverdale.

The taxi driver, a 58-year-old man, and two passengers, a 56-year-old and 81-year-old, died at the scene, alongside the driver of the second vehicle, a Toyota RAV4 sedan. One of the cars also caught fire during the incident.

It is one of two major crashes in Perth’s southern suburbs on Monday morning to have led to major road closures and delays.

The highway is closed in both directions between Tonkin Highway and Orrong Road, and is expected to remain closed for an extended period.

Major crash investigators are at the scene and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at crimestopperswa.com.au.

At 4.30am, in a separate incident, police were called regarding a crash involving a car and a cyclist at the intersection of Spearwood Avenue and Howson Way in Bibra Lake.

Police and emergency services are responding to the crash. Spearwood Avenue northbound is closed between Cocus Drive and Barrington Road and is also expected to remain shut for some time.

Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes and to monitor the Main Roads WA website for road closure updates.
