Man in critical condition after horrific assault on inner west nightlife strip

A man is fighting for life after a coward punch in one of Sydney’s favourite nightlife spots left him with critical head injuries.

Around 11pm on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was on Enmore Road in Newtown when he was attacked by a group of people, police were told.

A witness said members of the public provided CPR to the man for several minutes before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. A Triple 0 caller reported the man had been coward punched.

Paramedics found the man with significant bleeding from his head. Horrified onlookers watched as they worked to revive the man.

One onlooker was in tears as the victim was loaded into an ambulance. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

“Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were told a 26-year-old man was assaulted by a group of people – believed to be more than two,” a police spokesperson said.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has commenced.”
