The Eels get a scrum and then get the game’s first points, completely against the run of play, thanks to some individual brilliance from fullback Isaiah Iongi. Taking the pass from the scrum, Iongi dummies to his outside, goes himself, beats two defenders and slides over to score.

Iongi looms as one of the key men in Jason Ryles’ first season at the club, and is a promising enough prospect that Ryles was happy for club favourite Clint Gutherson to leave for the Dragons.

Zac Lomax kicks the conversion and it’s Eels 6, Tigers 0 after 15 minutes.
