Catley, when she first took up the police ministry, had advised NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb that her brother had drug problems, in case he was ever arrested.

“Illicit drug use and addiction are blights on our society. The damage they can inflict on and within families is incalculable,” Catley said.

“I know this from my personal family experience.

“My heart goes out to every family that is afflicted by the devastating consequences of addiction.”

Minister Catley is the member for Swansea, south of Newcastle.

Catley’s brother was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 11 March.
