Carlton superstar Charlie Curnow has been sent for scans after leaving training early on Saturday, as intrigue builds over his availability for the start of the season.

The two-time Coleman medallist appeared to be pointing to his leg as he came off the track with trainers midway through the club’s open session, missing the second phase of match simulation.

Curnow was slated to take part in only half the session.

Curnow rejoined the main group this week after undergoing two operations on his ankle and knee during the off-season, the latter taking place in December.

He had impressed the 2000-strong crowd at Ikon Park with his strong marking in the first part of match practice, and also ran at full tilt in the running drills.

His interrupted preparation leaves him running out of time to be ready for the Blues’ practice games, starting with a match simulation against St Kilda on Saturday week.

The Blues kick off their home and away season against last season’s wooden spooner Richmond on March 13.

After a horror run with injury from 2019-2021, Curnow played 69 games in a row until succumbing to an ankle problem late last year and missing the finals.

Gun midfielder Sam Walsh trained away from the main group as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Walsh was limited to running, including some higher-intensity efforts, and ball work with the Blues’ unlisted train-on squad members.
