A truck driver was ambushed and shot when a car pulled him over in south-west Sydney, before two cars suspected to be linked to the shooting were found burnt-out.

Police said the 29-year-old was driving along Donald Street, Yennora, when a car stopped in front of him around 11.20pm on Monday.

A man allegedly got out of the car and fired several shots at the truck, hitting the driver in the wrist and abdomen before fleeing the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the driver at the scene before taking him to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Shortly after, police found a Lexus sedan alight on Dixmude Street, South Granville, and a second car on fire on Boundary Road, Chester Hill. Police are investigating links between the shooting and car fires. Crime scenes have been established at all three locations.
